What is Paint Protection Film?
Paint Protection Film (PPF) offers the next level of protection over a Ceramic Coating, however both have their benefits but the cost can vary greatly between the two so you will need to choose the one that suits your needs and budget the best.
Paint Protection Film offers protection against physical abrasion such as scratches, stone chips, scuffs and marks. The latest technology films such as Ceramic Pro Kavaca features unique Instant Healing properties so scratches dissappear instantly, and a slick hydrophobic effect so the surface stays cleaner for longer.
The difference between PPF and a Ceramic Coating is that a Ceramic Coating does not offer any protection from physical damage such as scratches, stone chips, scuffs and marks however it does feature a slick hydrophobic effect so the surface stays cleaner for longer and chemical resistance against environmental fallout such as bird droppings, bug splatter, tar and tree sap.
Ceramic Pro Kavaca is the most advanced and best looking Paint Protection Film on the market. Many years of experience in the industry of surface protection and extensive research, formulated a perfect PPF to be used along with Ceramic Pro Coatings to maximize the performance of our surface protection systems.
What is the cost of Paint Protection Film?
The cost between the two can vary greatly, PPF is generally used on just the front end of the car for protection against stone chips – this starts at $1950.00 and can go upwards of $6500 for the whole car and can take anywhere from 2 – 5 days to apply. Whereas a Ceramic Coating starts at $700.00.
A good balance between the two is applying PPF to the front of the vehicle (Bumper Bar, Bonnet, Guards and Wing Mirrors) to prevent stone chip damage and applying a Ceramic Coating to the rest of the vehicle where you are unlikely to get any damage from stone chips etc.
So what is Paint Protection Film exactly?
Paint Protection Film is also known as PPF, Stone Guard, Clear Vinyl and Clear Wrap. It is made up of layers of clear polyurethane with the very top coat being a soft self healing layer that is hydrophobic, the film is thick enough to absorb damage such as rocks hitting the surface at force which would usually chip your paint work.
This very unique film comes on a roll, and can be very difficult to apply hence why it is not cheap. There are 2 methods of application, one being bulk fitting where a bulk piece of film is applied to the panel and trimmed to suit, and templates where the film is cut on a plotter from a database that has the template of your cars panels, this is a very precise fit. Both of these methods have their place depending on the car and the panel it is being applied too.
Paint protection film is a thermoplastic urethane often self healing film applied to painted surfaces of a new or used car in order to protect the paint from stone chips, bug splatters, and minor abrasions. This film is also used on airplanes, RVs, cell phones, electronics, screens, motorcycles and many other areas. Wikipedia
